Before becoming one of the planet’s biggest streamers, Guy ‘Dr DisRespect’ Beahm cut his teeth as a map designer for Call of Duty studio Sledgehammer Games. Helping make maps for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare back in the day, Dr DisRespect knows a thing or two about map design.
After helping create a map of his own Champions Club Arena in third-person shooter Rogue Company and designing his own 2v2 Gunfight map for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on stream, it’s safe to say The Doc is still passionate about his past profession. Just a few days ago, Dr DisRespect offered his help to Riot Games to design a map for Valorant, and it now appears that Riot is “down” for a collaboration.
Replying to a February 9 Dr DisRespect tweet – in which he says his “flip phone is wide open” to discuss making more fun maps for Valorant – Riot’s global influencer programs lead, Ali Miller, says that “the flip phone has been pinged.”
While this might initially seem like some lighthearted influencer relations, Valorant’s game director, Joseph Ziegler, also says he’s “down” to hear what the Two-Time has to offer.
“Can’t promise anything… but I’m always down to hear your thoughts and ideas!” Ziegler says.
With plenty of experience and a passion for map design, could we be seeing Dr DisRespect lend a hand to Valorant’s design team? The game’s limited map pool is arguably one of the biggest complaints from pro players and those climbing the Valorant ranks right now.
Valorant currently only has five maps: Bind, Ascent, Haven, Split, and the newest addition, Icebox. Before the release of Icebox, Ziegler suggested Valorant needed at least “a couple more” maps to be in a sound state, competitively. He also hinted that Riot’s previous plan to release a new map at the start of every Episode (around every six months) has been accelerated.
